7th International Student Competition EKKOMED for the Creation of Educational Board and Digital Games “The Lesson is a Game”
Using play as a pedagogical and creative tool, students and educators combine learning with imagination, collaboration and technology. The competition, addressed to the educational community in Greece, the Greek Diaspora and Cyprus, is now being held for the seventh consecutive year, giving primary and secondary school students the opportunity to create an original board or digital game. This year’s competition, themed “Greek Cinema: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow,” combines digital learning with screen literacy and invites students to discover the history and development of Greek cinema, explore filmmakers and films, and examine the relationship between cinema, society and culture, while making use of contemporary technologies and creative forms of storytelling.

“And Yet… We Move!”: Learning About Images Through Animation
EKKOMED’s successful educational programme “And Yet… We Move!”, launched in 2021, uses animation as a tool for developing media literacy and audiovisual literacy, encouraging children to observe, understand and creatively engage with images. The programme features 12 award-winning short animated films from Takorama Film Festival, with no dialogues, free from advertisements selected from the programmes of institutions such as CNC and the Annecy Festival, for children aged 4–15. The films are accompanied by educational material for teachers and parents. Through questions, film and arts literacy activities, and creative and experiential exercises, children are encouraged to express themselves, collaborate and create, while developing a critical and active relationship with audiovisual content. The films explore themes such as technology, diversity, social relationships, friendship, fears and migration.

CINEDU x EKKOMED
The CINEDU x EKKOMED digital streaming platform is completing its third full year of operation, strengthening teaching and learning in schools through cinema. During the 2025–2026 school year, more than 9,500 teachers and 2,800 schools across Greece used the platform, benefiting more than 120,000 students. A total of 97 fiction, animation and documentary films, as well as three educational videos, were made available, accompanied by educational resources aligned with the national curriculum. At the same time, access to film content was expanded for schools in island and remote areas, while training sessions and presentations were held throughout the country, highlighting cinema as a tool for learning, creative expression and the development of critical thinking.
Cinematherapy by EKKOMED – Film Awareness Programme
Cinematherapy by EKKOMED uses film and the moving image as tools for experiential learning, critical thinking, expression and social awareness. During 2025–2026, the programme implemented activities in a range of educational and social settings. At the CINEphil_101 International Festival of Philosophical Cinema, a workshop was held for 170 secondary school students. In collaboration with CIFEJ and The HOME Project, experiential workshops were also organised for unaccompanied refugee children, with the moving image serving as a means of expression and communication. In 2026, Cinematherapy participated in the new programme of EKKOMED juvenile delinquency “Friendly Justice in the Cinema,” in collaboration with CINEDU and the Ministries of Justice and Culture.
At the same time, through the Ψ-Talk series, as well as through festival and educational activities, watching and discussing films becomes an opportunity for meaningful communication, self-awareness, critical engagement and active participation.
