Successful launch of the 1ST  VGD Days by EKKOMED Webinar for 2026

The first webinar of the VGD Days by EKKOMED for 2026 was held with great success and broad participation from university students, marking the launch of a new year of dynamic initiatives.

The webinar titled “Video Games: Creation, Innovation and the Modern Creative Economy”, which took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, attracted strong interest from the academic community, highlighting the rapidly growing video games sector as a particularly dynamic pillar of the contemporary creative economy.

The event was organized by Creative Hub by EKKOMED, in collaboration with the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) – Department of Music Technology and Acoustics, and SAEK Rethymno – Department of Information Technology Applications (Multimedia / Web Designer – Developer / Video Games), strengthening the connection between academia and professional developments in the industry.

Distinguished professionals from the Greek video games industry participated in the discussion, representing different sectors of production, technology and innovation. eNVy Softworks presented the current landscape of the Greek video games ecosystem, highlighting the professional roles that compose it, as well as the sector’s international and export-oriented potential. Dragonis Games focused on the creative process of game development, from the conception of the initial idea to the final production within a modern game studio. At the same time, representatives from Couch Heroes addressed issues related to technology and innovation in gameplay, emphasizing the role of platforms as well as the multiple skill sets creators must acquire to attract investment interest. Finally, particularly useful advice was provided regarding which specialties are currently lacking in the market, while the speakers also described what a typical working day looks like for a team active in the sector.

The Game Developers Association of Greece (GDA Greece) and the iGDA Chapter of Greece also participated actively in the webinar, offering an institutional perspective and emphasizing the importance of collective representation of Greece abroad.

The presentations highlighted the bond between technology and creativity, the importance of collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches, as well as the opportunities opening for Greek video game production in the international market.

Special interest was generated by the open discussion on career paths in the video games industry, during which the speakers shared practical advice on first professional steps after graduation, the importance of a strong portfolio and hands-on experience, the skills sought by modern studios, common mistakes made by young creators, and career options in Greece and abroad. The active participation of students through questions confirmed the growing need for guidance and meaningful contact with the industry.

This successful first webinar marks the launch of VGD Days by EKKOMED for 2026, a comprehensive series of in-person and online actions aimed at strengthening the Greek video games community, transferring knowledge and expertise, fostering networking among creators, academics and professionals, and promoting Greek creative production internationally.

The VGD Days are part of the preparation for Gamescom 2026, reinforcing the strategic connection of the Greek ecosystem with international markets and developments. EKKOMED continues to invest in the creative industries, new technologies and the country’s human capital, strengthening Greece’s role on the global map of video games and the modern creative economy.
