The Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre – EKKOMED, within the framework of its strategy to strengthen social and environmental awareness through the audiovisual sector, announces the further expansion of its collaboration with the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF), as well as the nationwide promotion of the international documentary Ocean with David Attenborough to all Greek schools via the CINEDU educational platform website.
This initiative follows the special screening of the documentary held on Sunday, 1 March 2026, at Olympion Cinema in Thessaloniki, as part of the “Revive Our Ocean – Greece” campaign. This action marks a substantial strengthening of EKKOMED’s collaboration with organizations active in the field of environmental protection, aiming to connect audiovisual culture with critical issues of public interest.
The Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre, leveraging its institutional role as the national body for film and audiovisual media, systematically invests in the development and support of initiatives that enhance education, critical thinking, and citizens’ active participation in cultural activities. The promotion of the documentary to all Greek schools, across all levels of education, with Greek subtitles via the CINEDU platform, forms part of the organisation’s consistent policy of utilizing audiovisual education as a tool for contemporary creative learning.
The documentary delivers a powerful message of hope for the future of the oceans, presenting a century of scientific discoveries and highlighting the vital importance of oceans for all life on Earth. Through striking imagery and well-documented narration, it showcases both the unique beauty of the underwater world and the modern threats it faces, while also presenting examples of successful protection and restoration of marine ecosystems.
The premiere and the overall initiative were supported by EKKOMED’s 2025 Extroversion Programme, reaffirming the organisation’s developmental and social role in promoting synergies that connect the creative industries with environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Through targeted partnerships and the use of digital technologies, EKKOMED is shaping a coherent framework of actions that enhances the international outreach of the Greek audiovisual sector while fostering environmental awareness among younger generations.
The CEO of EKKOMED, Leonidas Christopoulos, stated:
“The audiovisual sector is a strategic pillar of cultural development, as well as a powerful tool for shaping social and environmental awareness. At EKKOMED, we consistently support initiatives that connect creativity with education and sustainability. The nationwide access to Ocean with David Attenborough through CINEDU’s extensive network of schools confirms our commitment to bringing high-quality audiovisual content to the educational community, contributing meaningfully to the formation of informed and active citizens.”
