The Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece (EKKOMED), in collaboration with the historic French school ENS Louis-Lumière and the PACT Association of Producers of Communication Works, are organizing, for the first time in Greece, a ten-day professional seminar delivered by professionals from Lumière for film electricians.
The profession of the film electrician constitutes a key part of production on two levels. On a technical level, the electrician is responsible for the design, installation and management of the electrical systems required on set. On a creative level, they implement the lighting conditions specified by the Director of Photography. From lighting to powering equipment, the electrician ensures effective collaboration with the camera and lighting department and the safe operation of technical equipment.
The seminar is offered free of charge to ten selected participants and is aimed at professionals and young technicians who wish to deepen their knowledge of electrical support for film productions, starting from the position of Assistant Electrician.
Participants will be selected based on their C.V. and any experience they may have in electrical applications, not necessarily within the film industry. An electrician’s license is desirable. During the seminar, participants will work under practical simulated shooting conditions, gaining experience in solving technical problems and managing electrical installations. The profession is physically demanding; therefore, candidates must have the physical ability to carry heavy equipment for many hours.
The seminar will take place in Athens, in specially equipped venues and studios, led by established instructors from ENS Louis-Lumière and PACT collaborators. In parallel, masterclasses and roundtable discussions will be held with professionals from different fields of audiovisual production whose work is related to and interacts with the film electrician’s specialization.
