By decision of its Board of Directors, EKKOMED announces the modernization and restructuring of the Selective Support Programs for Greek Cinema. The new programs have taken into account the public consultation that was carried out and aim to strengthen Greek film creation, attract and develop audiences, accelerate the implementation of the programs, and improve their transparency. More specifically:
I. DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION PROGRAM
The total budget for 2026 for the Selective Development and Production Programs (including the two phases below) has been set at €15 million.
PHASE A
Until 31 July 2026,
the existing regulation remains in force in order to complete the active cycles, but with increased maximum funding caps as follows:
Main program:
- For fiction projects, the maximum funding amount is set at €500,000
- For documentary projects, the maximum funding amount is set at €150,000
First film program:
- For fiction projects, the maximum funding amount is set at €350,000
- For documentary projects, the maximum funding amount is set at €90,000
PHASE B
From 1 August 2026
the new, expanded and upgraded framework of selective actions enters into force, with further increased limits per film project. The funding actions of the new Regulation will support the following areas:
- script and production project development for fiction and documentary
- productions by new Greek creators
- Greek fiction productions
- Greek documentary productions
- support for production completion (gap financing)
- minority co-productions
- short film productions
- animation productions
- children’s and youth film productions
II. DISTRIBUTION & PROMOTION PROGRAM
In parallel, a new Program is established for the distribution and promotion of Greek film works, with a total amount of €1,250,000 for 2026. The program includes strengthened existing actions, as well as new ones concerning the following:
- support for the world premiere of Greek film works at recognized international film festivals and their respective markets
- support for Greek film works that are to be released in distribution in Greece
- support for movie theaters, with the aim of enhancing the viability of theaters throughout the country through the screening of Greek films
III. PROGRAMS FOR NEW CREATORS
In addition, EKKOMED inaugurates, through the newly established Independent Office for the Support of New Creators, the first programs for informing, guiding, and supporting New Creators (not only in terms of age). These programs cover the following:
- support for diploma projects (in the form of a film) by graduating students of recognized film schools in Greece
- development of narratives for audiovisual storytelling professionals who wish to develop or redefine the way they narrate their stories cinematically and audiovisually
- support and enhancement of sound art and moving image for creators from different artistic fields who wish to give an audiovisual dimension to their work
IV. NEW REGISTRY OF AUDIOVISUAL CREATION EXPERTS
Within the framework of the new regulations, the selection of readers for the evaluation of proposals will be carried out exclusively through EKKOMED’s new digital Registry of Audiovisual Creation Experts. All professionals in the film and audiovisual sector who wish to participate in the evaluation process may apply for inclusion by submitting a relevant application, in accordance with the specifications and criteria that will be announced in detail in the relevant call.
