Athena Kartalou is the Greek Cinema General Director of the Hellenic, Film & Audiovisual Center – EKKOMED since October 2024. Previously she has served as the General Director of the Greek Film Centre – since October 2021. In 2023, she was elected to the EFAD Board. She holds a BA in Linguistics, an MA in Communications and a PhD in Film. Her professional path spans from communications to project management. She has collaborated with the main film and audiovisual bodies based in Greece and has led, often in the capacity of the account director, the comms and media departments of major cultural and sports mega-events, locally and internationally – mainly in the Middle East. In parallel she has been active in academic research, publishing and teaching.
